Philanthropic support boosts international achievement of the UPR Humacao Choir
On February 25, 2026, the UPR Foundation, Inc. formally presented a donation of $7,750.00 to the Humacao Campus of the University of Puerto Rico, intended to support the participation of 31 students from the UPR Humacao Choir in the CANTAQUERA International Choral Festival, held in Antequera, Spain, from March 12 to 16, 2026. The financial support consisted of a stipend of $250.00 per student, authorized by the President of the UPR Foundation, Engineer Alba Colón, to facilitate this international cultural and educational experience.
As a result of their outstanding participation in the competition, the UPR Humacao Choir received the Gold Diploma Level I (Golden I) in the G2 category (Youth Choirs), an award granted after competing against groups from more than 10 countries and before an international jury at one of the most prestigious choral festivals in Europe. This achievement was officially announced by UPR Humacao and shared through its institutional platforms and social media, highlighting the artistic excellence and academic commitment of the participating students.
The choir was directed by Professor Germán Peña Haddock, who led the group's artistic preparation throughout this formative experience. In addition to official competitions, the university delegation participated in friendship concerts and cultural exchanges. One of the most memorable moments, widely shared on social media, was a spontaneous performance from the hotel balconies in Málaga, Spain, which demonstrated the group's connection with the audience and its promotion of Puerto Rican culture.
This important international recognition reaffirms the impact of the UPR Foundation, Inc.'s philanthropic support on the comprehensive development of students and the promotion of Puerto Rican university talent on global stages.
